small video camera and housing
« on: February 23, 2009, 10:31:04 PM »
Hi all Currently my girlfriend is using a sony pc330 in an ocean images housing with ocean images lights. She is looking for something that is a little smaller and easier to travel with. We were at our world underwater this past weekend and saw a HD Bonica camera and setup. The size was right, very compact but I don't know if the camera is as good as the sony.
What she is looking for is a camera that will take good video (as good or better than what she is using), housing and lights. She would like to spend around 2500.00 or less if possible. She said it doesn't have to be high def. She has been happy with what she is using but it's getting more difficult to travel with because of airline restrictions.
any thoughts? thanks John

Hubby has the Seatool Housing for the Sony HDR-HC7/9 models videocamera. Bought it used for under $2500, but that is the price not including the video lights, focus light and camera. He loves the compactness and how light the camera is.

Hi, About a year and a half ago I purchase a used Seatool HC3 from Reef and Photo for $1500 and I absolutely love it for the very compact size and the beautiful quality of the High Def video it makes. Reef and Photo, reefphoto.com, are very good with costomer service. I never use lights and I love the resulting video. I carry my entire video setup which includes my Sony HC3 camcorder, Seatool HC3 housing, cables, batteries, 6 extra MiniDV tapes all in a small camera bag that is smaller than most women's purses. For a sample of one of my video made with this setup click here: http://www.vimeo.com/648532 .
Another even smaller and reasonably priced setup I used to use that also worked very well was an "Oceanhaus" housing from ABSea.net. I bought a Sony PC5 which is long since dissapeared but this housing worked fantastic. ABSea Photo is a very small company which is used to have inconsistent customer service. The lastest housing is the Oceanhaus Housing for Sony HC-7 / HC-9 Construction: Anodized Aluminum Maximum wide angle: 105 degrees Available Controls: power; zoom; autofocus on/off; video record on/off; mode; still photo button; backlighting on/off Dimensions: H: 3.9" L: 6.1" (7.1" including wide angle lens) W: 3.9" (6.0" including handle) Weight: (including camera and battery) In air: 4.075 lbs. Underwater: N/A. $2200 with wide angle lens.
