I am with you Ted, I am very interested to see how the NEX-7 is handled. I want to see how the EVF will be put to use. The reviews I have read regarding the Sony A77 and NEX-7 have given high marks to the EVF and put it on par size wise with "full frame" optical view finders. Nauticam did not include a way to add an accessory (inon-Nauticam) viewfinder to the housing for the Panasonic GH-2 EVF. I was told that the current Nauticam finder would have blocked the LCD big time. I would like to see a pickup finder on the NEX-7 housing that would help take advantage of the EVF.

My thought exactly Phil. Not only will I never be without a viewfinder on a serious camera, but I really need the viewfinder magnification for U/W use. And the size reduction is very welcomed.

I've sent the NEX-5 housing to Reef for conversion to fit the NEX-5n. Ryan tells me that it looks like there will be no using the viewfinder of the NEX-7. Boo. I may have to get a D7000 but I really wanted to downsize the rig.
Any other thoughts Phil???

The roll out of the NEX-7 and A77 has been put on hold by the floods in Thailand and the cameras are just starting to enter the US in very small numbers. As a result housings have been put on hold and some of the buzz has been lost. In January we will begin to see a new wave of cameras being announced and new buzz for the latest and greatest like the Canon EOS-1D X. We may very well see the Sony 24 MP APS-C (NEX-7 & A77) sensor in new Nikon bodies as well.
At this time I think we will see NEX-7 housings from several players and that the OLED finder will show in the LCD window for use with at best a pickup finder. I think a quality add on finder would need to be of a complete new design and that would be a very costly investment for just one housing.

So that leaves: 1. Continue to use my D70 and Subal, 2. Try to get used to no viewfinder and buy the NEX-7 and Nauticam, 3. Buy a D7000 and either a new Subal or a Nauticam, or 4. Wait for a new Nikon that uses the 24mp sensor and then either a new Subal or Nauticam.
Decisions, decisions. Thanks Phil, for the info.

A D70 in a Subal housing sounds pretty sweet to me, especially with it's 1/500 sync speed. I'd be hard pressed to trade up, unless it has an auto-focus shutter lag problem.
If I ever buy another DSLR ( I have a D7000 now ), I'd look really hard at the Sony's ( except I own quite a bit of Nikon glass now. )

I don't know how you can do serious macro, much less supermacro, without a viewfinder. (My old eyes even need an INON magnifier on it) That rules out all these small cameras for me.
I purchased the Seatool metal housing (from Richard) because it wraps around the D-300 so well and was/is the smallest d-300 housing out there. The current housings for the D-700 s are larger so I am not upgrading any time soon.

The hassle of lugging all the stuff around and dealing with TSA etc. is getting to be too much. Even my backpack weighs 38 lbs. and the two suitcases are 47 lbs. apiece. Not to mention the two duffel bags at 30-40 lbs.

I have a D7000, but I won't house it ( unless I get a killer deal ) due to size and weight. Also, These cameras and lenses are so expensive, that they really should be insured, which is expensive for a once a year diver. Diving with them makes me nervous.
If I go swimming with the whale sharks next year, I'll probably just use a GoPro camera and housing. $300 complete! And it is tiny.
