Hmmmm!  Maybe its time for a "Point and Shoot" forum?  It is not about beginner, intermediate etc... its about a camera someone decides to use.  It is a growing market and people want help with what they bought.

You may decide not to answer them for whatever reason but consumers are going to google and end up here and ask for help with true P&S cameras and the # of answers speak for themselves.

I have always received responses when I asked questions but it does seem like there are posts going un-answered or with few responses when it concerns a true P&S.  Maybe its a Moderator team that will not allow a legitimate post to go without several replies??

Recent activity on this and other boards has led me to think that maybe you only get good advice (volume) if you start your question with " I just bought a DSLR and ....."  If thats the case then just tell everyone upfront.

Jeff

Hey, Jeff, I don't know that questions are being ignored from a snob factor.  Perhaps they are being ignored from an ignorance factor.  If someone asks about a P&S that no one knows about (or that the few regular posters know about), then they can't offer information they don't have.

It's actually a nice thing about the board - a low degree of blustery, I'm-an-expert-on-everything types.  I know a little about a few cameras - can't comment much on any P&S more modern than a Oly C5050 (or any Nikon or Oly DSLRs either).

At least on my part, it's ignorance, not apathy (don't know, not don't care).  I guess that's not much to brag about...

In any case, how would a new forum help?  I think it would just reduce the number of people who might read any particular thread.  Since I don't have a P&S, I wouldn't go to that forum.  Then I won't even see the question, so I sure can't answer it, right?

Kurt,  your response is spot on and I appreciate it.  I took two minutes today to search about reefmaster cameras just so I could give someone a hello and "I don't know what to tell ya!" response.  If its too much trouble for a person with their hands firmly on a DSLR to remember back where they came from to stop and do some research to give a person a bread crumb then maybe thats where the forum would help.  A few experienced people willing to look at the "P&S" forum long enough to give some advice would go along way.

I don't know........

Kurt hit it on the head. By segmenting the camera board, SLR users would be less inclined to ever look at the compact board, and their accumulated knowledge would be even more likely to go untapped. It's like a filter that would divide the community into two camps, and have just the opposite effect that you're seeking.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

As a P&S user, I don't think we need a separate forum.  I learn a lot from those who have moved on to dSLR. I may go that way myself someday.

New topic (or return of an old one): functionality of this site. When I want to answer a post and include an image, there is the occational time when the image is not acceptable (usually because I have misjudged the size). Clicking back will give me a new blank form, not a form that contains the text I wrote in already. That is a nuisance! What is more, I thought that at one time it worked differently, the text was remembered and re-displayed when I clicked back. Anyway, a change so that the text does not disappear would be really nice!

thanks
Niels

I wish the default setting in the classifieds was 'Sort by Date".

I'll stick my head above the parapet. On a similar vein to the wins/publications profile, I keep hearing about how people are winning competitions I've not heard of. Now I doubt I would enter any/many of these and if I did I doubt I got the shots/skills to claim any prizes but this got me thinking how about a competitions database....I will obviously hang my head in shame if anyone points out that there is already one stashed somewhere about the site......also I think there was some time ago a notion of a DDnet code of conduct for photographers on interacting with marine life - can't remember where we came out on this but I'd like to see something on those lines as a guide for beginners.

Is there any chance of getting the forum Tapatalk enabled?

I'm sure there are quite a few smartphone users who would make use of it.
